With our 26th Coronation Newsletter, we are in the final days of the year 2023. The year that many Tongans will later remember as the year of the 19th edition of the Kroningsfeesten. An edition with 3300 participants of which the youngest was barely a month and the oldest 89.
|
It was an edition that will be talked about for a long time to come. Certainly also because of a last Coronation Sunday when rain and thunderstorms respectfully bowed to the Cause of Our Joy and the efforts of so many Greater Tongans. The great solidarity of so many people both in front of and behind the scenes ensured this unique result. The Coronation Committee, at the end of this Coronation year, would like to thank everyone once again. We wish you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous, healthy and hopefully peaceful 2024.

Also in 2023, the Friends of the Nativity guarantee a beautiful Christmas village in the basilica. During Advent, this village was adapted every Advent Sunday. Quite a few children already paid a visit. 1 class even had the privilege of spending the night at the nativity scene. Be sure to come and have another look. Click on "read more" to get an impression of what to expect. This year the Basilica Tower is also festively illuminated. It evokes memories of Coronation Week.

In December, the latest issue of Tongeren Annals 2023 was published. This journal of the Royal Limburg Historical and Archaeological Society of Tongeren (KLGOG) contains 4 Coronation articles. The first shows three unpublished photographs of the coronation of the statue of grace of Our Lady on Aug. 31, 1890. This coronation was the basis for the creation of the Kroningsfeesten. Organizing Kroningsfeesten is only possible when many people join hands. There is also a need for sufficient financial resources. This is why the Coronation Committee started the "Friends of the Coronation" a few Coronation editions ago. Euregio : Coronation gives presidency to Hasselt
